"One of my favorite memories is the result of naturalistic play-based therapy. My client saw her friend on a swing and she approached him and said, “play”, which caused everyone in the room to just stop. Did she just say that? And he scooted over and he let her sit on the swing next to her and we were all standing kind of on the sidelines watching this natural interaction play out.
Then he asked to swing and they got a little off balance. She reached over and patted his leg. And then he reached over and put his arm around her and they're swinging and they start to look at each other and they start to babble.
The two of them are having some sort of conversation. We have no clue what they're doing, but they are in it. They're holding hands and tolerating being with each other, and they're enjoying each other. And then they start to sing with such a natural interaction. And we were all stunned. I get chills.
They have started this friendship where they actually will notice each other and one will peek their head out of the room and make sure the other is okay.
It was something the parents of these children have been yearning for.
It was magic."
